GENERAL QUESTIONS

How do I find my class/club/team on the weblab?

Please go to the menu at the top of the page and choose one of the options under "Find A Site". It is possible your class/club/team does not yet have a weblab site. Please speak to your teacher/leader/coach about getting one!

How do I log into the Weblab?

The first time you are invited to join a site or request membership to a site, you will be presented with a form that asks you for your email and a password, as well as a few other questions. Once that username (email) and password are accepted, you should use that same combination to join any other sites on the weblab.

Please note that unlike years past, students and teachers are NOT preloaded into the site - and therefore must create their own usernames and passwords.

Some sites won't let me in - why is that? What can I do about it?

Some sites on the weblab are member-only sites. You must be a member to see these sites. Some of the sites are invitation-only, so you will have to find out who runs the site and ask to be invited. Other sites allow users to request membership. If that is the case, click the link that appears when you try and visit the site.

The site says my profile is only X% complete. Do I have to complete my profile?

No! The website that powers the weblab is also used by businesses and social networking companies. The profile system is more for those kinds of sites. You are not required to complete any fields beyond your name, age, username (email) and password.

SITE MANAGER QUESTIONS

What is the address (URL) of my site? What's the deal with groupsite.com vs. bhsweblab.net?

The address to find your site is a subdomain of the main site. That means you replace the "www." of the address with your site's name. For example "dickerman9th."

The company that hosts the weblab is groupsite.com. You can always get to your site using the address with groupsite.com. For example dickerman9th.groupsite.com. We are also setting up the site to use the domain bhsweblab.net. Once that is set up (a couple days after your site is created) you can also use that address. For example, dickerman9th.bhsweblab.net. Both addresses lead to the exact same site and both can be used at any time without consequence.

What are the different privacy options for my site? Who can see my site?

There are three possible privacy settings:

  1. Private - Not visible to outsiders - Only approved members of your site can get in. PROS: Private place for your group. CONS: Can't share with anyone outside the group (e.g. parents).
  2. Limited - Public home page only - Anyone can see the homepage, but the rest of the site is private. PROS: Outsiders can see modules you add to homepage (calendar, blog posts, etc) CONS: Outsiders still can't see most of site.
  3. Public - Everything but user profiles - The whole site is open to anyone, but to post comments, participate in discussions or upload files, a person would still need to be an approved member of the group. PROS: Easy to share pictures, files, news with outsiders. CONS: Anyine can see what going on all over your site.
